BIBLICAL PARENTING(USING WOMEN PERSPECTIVE)
DEFINITION OF TERMS
a.
Biblical-
something that relates to or contained in the bible. In other words, it means
something that is done or kept with the nature of the bible or being in accord with the bible.
b.
Parenting:
Another word for parenting is child rearing which is the process of promoting
and supporting the physical, emotional, social and intellectual development of
a child from infancy to adulthood.
However,
biblical parenting is training, teaching, nurturing and bringing up of a child
in the way of God according to the word of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Without a
Godly home, there would not be a Godly parent hence the need for Godly home
consisting of a Christian home where parent are bound together in love with God
fearing children.
“for I know him
that he will command his children and
his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice
and judgment; that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of
him” – Gen 18:19. Deut
6:6-7.
It is the joint effort of both
husband and wife to train and bring up their children in the way of the Lord.
Their behavior goes a long way to affect their children personalities. Husband
cannot afford to leave the training of children to his wife alone; likewise
wife cannot afford to leave the training of their children to her husband. For
the bible says that a child left to himself will bring nothing but shame and
regret to his parents –Prov 29:15.
However, mother has a vital role to
play in bringing up their children in the way they should go for the bible says
“train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not
depart from it- Prov. 22:6.
She is the first contact, the first parent, she
carried him in her womb for nine months after which she breastfed him in his
early life. The mother’s image is the first that stamps itself on the unwritten
page of the young child’s mind. Oh!
there is no other noble work than that of a Godly mother. Children do get
trained solely by instruction, they learn by observing and imitating what they
see adult do.
According to a Psychologist – John
Locke “When a child is born, the child’s mind is like a blank slate” which
depend solely on parents and other caregivers virtually for everything. In
children first two months, they are already aware of the things happening
around them, though it may not be obvious to people around, hence the words
spoken and actions of the adults around them register on their blank slate,
that is, their minds, which at this stage is highly impressionable. To Be Continued.
