THOUGHTS TO PONDER ON
THEOLOGICAL
ENGINEER.
What good is truth if you can't apply
it? The Christian life is meant to be lived, in
the real world, by real people. Engineering is exactly that: turning theory
into application, creating something anyone can benefit from.
Or, in diagnosing
a problem to find the root cause (which is usually how the system was misused,
not the theory behind it). The Theological Engineer focuses on
connecting spiritual truths to everyday experiences. There's much more to being
a follower of Jesus Christ than just what you know. Like an engineer, it's
important to turn those concepts into something that actually moves,
in your life, and the life of others.
THE TAKE AWAY
Sometimes, however, God hides His love
in the strangest places. In a series of sixty-six books that describe His role
in human history. In a piece of bone, wrapped in a leather thong, thrown across
the back of an innocent Man. In the thistles that threaten to overtake Colorado
lawns everywhere. God reveals Himself in direct commands, like "Love your
neighbor," and in the metaphorical parables of Jesus. And in peanut butter
sandwiches, one of the greatest metaphors of all.
LOVING THOSE
WRAPPED UP IN SIN.
Jesus didn't say to love the sinner and
hate the sin. But believers are called to love, including the hard, often
unrewarding work of loving those wrapped up in sin.
PRAISING GOD IN
AN IMPERFECT WORLD
Our world is fallen and cursed. Sin
runs rampant and infects everything. Even apart from the ill effects of obvious
sinfulness, things just don't work the way they should. Appliances break,
clothes wear out, droughts ruin crops, our bodies get sick, etc. This is so
pervasive in our lives that we even joke about it. This world is imperfect, and
we feel the call of something better. But even in the midst of a stressful
time, we can still praise God. (2 Peter 3:11-13; Revelation 21-22).
WAITING ON FAITTHFUL
GOD
Waiting on God is notoriously
difficult. In a society where the microwave is barely fast enough, God's
timeline can seem impossibly slow. As some like to say, patience is a virtue
that I can't wait to acquire. But recently I've been seeing just how faithful
God is; He has not forgotten and He does come through. In a world of
text-messaging and microwave ovens, waiting feels useless. But the waiting
times are when God does much of His work in our lives. Lamentation 3:25
BELIEVING GOD
It never hurts to remind ourselves that
there is no fear for believers in Jesus regarding salvation. We are not in the
category of those with debased minds or hearts hardened beyond
repair . God will not give us over
to delusion. We will not be lost. We belong to Jesus and He is faithful to hold
us and to complete us. Believing God means living in His absolute love,
goodness, and faithfulness, even when surrounded by darkness and trials. (Romans 7-8; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11).
FLYING TRAPAZE
God promises to be faithful. He alone
is our anchor and firm foundation. Part of what I'm realizing is how much I've
relied on other people or familiar routines to be my security. Of course God
has purpose for community and does use others in our lives to help us feel
stable. Routine isn't all bad either. But ultimately God is the foundation. He
is both the catcher on the trapeze and the harness securing me.
To leave the safety of the platform, to
swing through the air, and then let go of the trapeze and fly, is to know that
God is on the other side, ready to catch you. 2TIM 1:7
